A Look Back at What Makes Your Sessions Different
You already know that physical therapy is more than just a few stretches and exercises. But have you ever wondered why we do things the way we do? Here’s a refresher on how it all comes together.
Your First Appointment
We always take the time to understand what you’re experiencing and build a clear picture of how we can help.
Your First Appointment
We always take the time to understand what you’re experiencing and build a clear picture of how we can help.
We Start by Listening
There’s a good reason your first appointment starts with a conversation. Our team knows that understanding your goals is just as important as understanding your symptoms. So before we start building your treatment plan, we want to know what matters most to you, which is why we ask about your symptoms, health and injury history, daily activities, and goals.
We want to know what makes your symptoms better or worse, how they affect the things you want to do, and what you hope to accomplish with physical therapy. This information helps your PT understand the bigger picture and tailor the physical examination specifically to you—so we assess the movements, activities, and physical demands that matter most to your recovery.
A Detailed Physical Examination
However, we also want to see how your body moves and performs, which is where our comprehensive movement assessment comes in. The goal is help us better understand what may be contributing to the problem.
Depending on your needs, we may assess:
- How you move through functional patterns like squatting, bending, reaching, or stepping
- How your joints work together during movement
- Strength, control, balance, and coordination
- Walking, running, jumping, or other movements specific to your activity or sport
Once the assessment is complete, your PT will walk you through the findings in clear, simple terms, answer your questions, and create an individualized plan to help you move better, build capacity, and get back to the activities that matter to you.
Your Treatment Evolves With You
Physical therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Your care evolves with you, and we regularly reassess and adjust your plan as you progress.
Your Follow-Up Visits:
Turning the Plan Into Action
Follow-up appointments generally last 40 to 60 minutes and include one-on-one care from the same physical therapist.
Checking What Has Changed
Your physical therapist will check your progress, ask how you responded to treatment, and reassess relevant areas as needed.
Using the Right Treatment for You
Because your care evolves with you, we regularly reassess and adjust your plan as you progress. For example, we might initially focus on comfortable movement and symptom management. As your symptoms improve, we’ll incorporate more challenging exercises to build strength, mobility, or movement control. Finally, the later stages of treatment will help prepare you for work, sports, and other important activities.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Six Years of Propel
On October 19, 2020, we opened Propel Physical Therapy in the middle of one of the most uncertain times any of us had ever lived through. The world was still navigating COVID, businesses were closing their doors, and many people told us it was the wrong time to start something new. But we believed that was exactly when our community needed care the most, and that South Florida deserved physical therapy that was both accessible and exceptional.
What began as one small 700 square foot space opening during a pandemic is now a team serving you across Doral, Kendall, and West Gables. Guided by our Move-First philosophy, we’ve helped athletes, weekend warriors, post-surgical patients, and families get back to the lives they love. We’re also proud to have mentored more than 50 future physical therapists each year through our partnerships with FIU, the University of Miami, and the University of St. Augustine – Miami.
West Gables is growing!
West Gables is growing! In only our second full month we were able to see over 140 patient visits in the month of September. Excited to see it’s growth in serving a new community in West Miami and Coral Gables.
From Surgery to Sport.
What Full Recovery Really Looks Like
Getting cleared for everyday activities after surgery is definitely an important milestone. But what if you’re an athlete, and your goals involve high-level movements like running, jumping, or competition? A general clearance doesn’t necessarily mean your body is ready for those demands.
Recovery shouldn’t stop at everyday function.
Recovery shouldn’t stop at everyday function. At Propel Physical Therapy, post-surgical rehabilitation goes beyond traditional recovery. Whether your goal is returning to sports, heavy lifting, or running, we work to rebuild the strength, movement, and capacity your activity demands.
As you progress, rehabilitation advances from restoring mobility and strength to higher-level training focused on power, balance, and sport-specific movement. “` We also use objective testing with force dynamometers and force plates to measure strength, symmetry, and force production. This data helps guide progression and determine readiness for higher-level activity and return to sport. The goal isn’t just to feel ready—it’s to build and measure the capacity to return confidently.

From Recovery
to Performance
When everyday function is no longer the finish line, rehabilitation can progress toward the specific physical demands of your sport and goals.
Strength, Power & Agility
Build strength, power, and agility to prepare your body for faster, more demanding movements.
Running, Jumping & Landing
Progress running, jumping, cutting, and landing based on your recovery and the specific demands of your sport.
Sport-Specific Training
Gradually introduce the movements, speed, and intensity needed for practice and competition.
Go beyond “cleared” to get back in the game.
Returning to sport isn’t just about spending enough time in rehab or being medically cleared. It’s about demonstrating the strength, movement quality, and physical capacity your sport demands. At Propel Physical Therapy, we use objective testing and criteria-based progression to help guide your return—so the decision isn’t based on time or how you feel alone.
